When the harbour was constructed, the town became a major holiday destination as well as a passenger terminal. Hotels were developed and flourished. The number of hotels has greatly reduced, and many former hotels have been converted for other uses.

Examples include the Avenue Hotel, the Wavecrest Hotel, Ross’s Victoria Hotel, The Royal Mail Hotel, The Pier Hotel, The Anglesea Arms, The Elphin, The Queens and many others.

Hotels which have disappeared include Brazil’s Hotel, The Royal Hibernian Hotel, Hayes’s Hotel, The Crofton, The Salthill Hotel, The Belleview, The Bayside, the Grosvenor, The Ashton and Kenny’s Hotel.

Tour starts from the steps of the Old Town Hall, Marine Road, Dún Laoghaire.
